Heliogravure speech on September 28 at 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. we invite you to the inauguration of this exhibition of heliogravure by Carles Mitjà (visit his web) titled From mind to hands.
The images that are on display are part of the long-term projectFrom mind to hands. The project is based on the statement by the French geographer Béatrice Giblin, when he says that the landscape does not exist beyond the observer’s vision. From this affirmation it can be derived that the landscape is a construction of the human vision and therefore, of the mind. On the other hand, in a text about the attitude and experiences as a photographer, Minor White writes: “Losing one’s self in something, a flower, an idea, a movement, is characteristic of heightened concentration. Occasionally, in this state, a sense of oneness or union is felt“,and in another text it recommends: “Be still yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence“.Minor White thus raises the idea of meditation closely linked to this individual landscape construction. The location or typology of the photographic object is therefore of importance, whereas the mind is the one that governs the capture.
In a phase after the capture, the development of the images of the project continues with its processing on the computer and finally, the execution of the presentation format as heliograuvures. This final art form requires a complex process, completely manual and necessarily slow, slowness that allows a framework of action through which the link between the idea or perception that originated the capture of the image does not break , now the hands are those who build a new ink landscape on the paper.
Finally, at the exhibition level and to complete the cycle of landscape construction as something associated with the individual, the prints are shown without frame or glass that prevent the direct vision of their physical structure. In this way the viewer is now invited to follow the advice of Minor White “Be still yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence““, thus constructing its own landscapes in front of each one of the prints.
As a complement to the exhibition Friday September 28 at 8 pm Carles Mitja will offer us a free entrance speech where he will talk about the world of heliograuvures and his technique. You are invited
