As photographers we must remember that the law guarantees the preservation of the own image as one of the fundamental rights of the individual. So, we can not publish pictures where people appear without first obtaining their consent, as otherwise they could undertake legal actions against us. Those who want to know more about the subject can read this interesting article in Maria Rosa Vila’s blog. To formalize this consent and avoid any possible problem, model release forms exists and help us to define or delimit clearly and precisely what uses we can make of our images depending on the permissions granted to us by the people appearing in them.
On the net you can find many model release forms that can be downloaded freely, but very few are available in Catalan. Furthermore, almost all are designed as non editable documents intended to be printed and fulfilled by hand, which makes the process very tedious in sessions with numerous models participating, where the same data must be recorded repeatedly. Therefore, we have decided to create a model release form written in Catalan and formatted as an editable form where their fields can be filled directly in the computer and the document be printed and signed later. This also makes easier to obtain two copies, one for the photographer and one for the model, without having to fill out the form twice. Also, if desired, it is possible to print the blank document to fill it by hand.
